About The Clapham Society Charity Web Design Case Study

Features of the site

The Clapham Society is dedicated to preserving the unique character of Clapham, its conservation areas, and its historically and architecturally significant buildings. The Society actively participates in planning and development consultations, presenting evidence at formal inquiries when necessary. It organises a variety of events, including talks and walks that cover both new developments and local history, and regularly publishes a newsletter for members and local stakeholders. By fostering strong relationships with Lambeth councillors and officials, the Society effectively represents the views of its members. Additionally, it publishes books and guided walk leaflets about the area and its history, and hosts social events for members and their guests.

The Clapham Society need a new website design that delivers 5 over-riding objectives:

To dynamically display all the most current events and activities with as little manual intervention as possible
To actively manage the membership
To allow anyone to reserve a place at an event
To receive and process payments including fees, gift aid, donations, events and merchandise
To be the custodian of the historical archives and newsletters (with a good search function)

The website is quite large. It currently has a top level menu of 14 items and contains many links to other organisations and a healthy library of articles and local information. Ideally most of this would remain the same but it would be good to see some simplification. They are looking for expert advice on whether to modify and improve what we have in existence, or whether in the long run it might be better to completely re-build the site from scratch. In each case, the five key objectives above remain the same.
